OSCARS :: BEST {& Worst} DRESSED

It's that time of year again; I love watching the Red Carpet arrivals for all the Award ceremonies throughout the year, and the Oscars is no exception. I couldn't wait to see all the fashion triumphs and oh-so-cringeworthy faux pas from last night. So without further ado, here are my picks for BEST DRESSED ::

Who doesn't love Reese Witherspoon? Her style is almost always on point and I love the simple black & white. The black band at the waist creates a figure-flattering effect and breaks up the all-white dress that could otherwise be non slimming.

Some might call Cate Blanchett's dress boring, but those of you who know me know that I love an all-black look with a pop of color. The dress is so simple, the cut works on her, and the pop of turquoise is the perfect addition. While she could have gone a little more glam, I don't discount her simplicity.

Say what you will about Emma Stone's "Poison Ivy inspired" dress but I love it. Chartreuse is one of those colors that so unexpectedly looks good on so many different people; blondes to redheads, fair-skinned to darker skinned. I love the color, the detailing, the textures and the slit.

Rosamund Pike is RED HOT... The fabric change at the waistline also creates a slimming and figure-flattering effect and I am a sucker for a great red dress. The slit breaks up the dress perfectly; keeping it classy without going too high

Maybe it's because I watched Pitch Perfect for the first time ever {Yes, I know...} on Friday night, but I am loving Anna Kendrick's gown. The peach color is great on her fair skin, whereas we've seen her in some blushes and neutrals that really don't flatter in the past. Neckline is great with her shoulders and arms, with no bling accessories needed. Glamorous and ladylike.

Jen proves to us yet again that she doesn't age, and has a much better body at 46 than I could ever dream of achieving. This dress is form-fitting and it totally works on her toned figure. The color works on her skin tone and I am always a fan of a one-shoulder style. The beading and texture adds glam and she keeps her accessories simple.

Now for the train wrecks. I actually thought there were far more WORST dressed this year than best *sigh.* Some were cringeworthy while others received mixed reviews. Here are my picks for WORST DRESSED ::

Okay... What, I mean WHAT is this? The dress itself is very flattering, which almost everything is on Scarlett Johansson. But I am hating the necklace or neck attachment {what IS it?} It is way too big and bulky and totally takes away from the dress. Scarlett was named as one of the Best Dressed, but I'm going to have to put her on my Worst list simply for the fact that she could have done a lot better.

Ouch, my eyes hurt! This dress may have been okay had Nicole Kidman not had the bright red, pleather-esque belt around the middle. The iridescence of it all is a little bit juvenile to me, and the cut is the only redeeming aspect of this look. The belt ruined it all for me, therefore putting her in my Worst Dressed category.

GAGA. I have never been a fan of her's therefore I have no problem putting her into this category. The dress is good in theory, but much too bulky on. There is too much fabric and structure and you can't see her figure at all except in the waist. And let's be honest... What is with the dish gloves? They've got to go.

There are few words for this dress. The first that comes to mind is unflattering. The second is ugly. I realize that Keira is pregnant and also trying to make a statement, but there are so many things wrong here :: the color, the fit, the detailing and messiness of everything added to this dress. I would have loved her in something a little more simple and chic, less cluttered and boho. C'mon, Keira!

It PAINS me to put Jessica Chasten in the Worst Dressed category. She is an ah-mazing actress, stunningly beautiful and I wouldn't mind being her {anyone else?}  But this dress is all wrong. The swooping effect of the top adds excess fabric and therefore looks bulky and the necklace is too prom for me. The overall problem I have with this dress is that it takes away from her fabulous figure and instead makes her look overly top-heavy and broad-shouldered, which she isn't. The guilt I'm already feeling for putting her into such a category is overwhelming; I love you Jessica!
