SPRING MUST-HAVES :: Distressed Denim + Lightweight POPOVER

This weekend was B-E-A-U-tiful, y'all! It made me so excited for the spring weather around the corner and I was sure to put on my brightest outfit {seen here on Instagram} and spend both Saturday and Sunday outside.

So in light of this balmy weather, I'm bringing you two, of many to come, wardrobe must-haves for the spring season. Distressed denim is perfect for casual wear in springy temperatures, but there are a few guidelines to follow to make sure you're doing distressed denim RIGHT ::

1) Choose a light to moderately distressed denim... Not something with holes from top to bottom. You just want to add a little texture to your jean and make it feel more causal.

2) Unless you have a runway model body type {a girl can dream}, choose a medium to dark wash. A jean that is too too light or acid-washed is unflattering on the thighs whereas the darker you go, the more slimming.

3) The lighter the wash, the more casual. The darker, the dressier. I have a lot of dark wash skinnies in my closet that I use for transitioning from day to night and out for occasions, so I went with more of a medium wash {PSA :: My distressed jeans are SO comfortable and stretchy and they are now marked down to LESS THAN $18. So if you are a size 27, 29, 30, 31 or 32 -- buy them NOW!}

4) Go for a jean that hits right around your ankle bone, or that you can cuff to hit there. Cuffing your jeans adds a more casual, daytime look.

This lightweight gingham shirt from J.Crew Factory is the perfect weight for spring and I love the relaxed and soft feel of it. I've been a big fan of navy lately and this top is no exception. It's also more of a tunic length which makes it great for leggings!

{Notice my pointed-toe flats? When you're wearing a lighter colored jean, try pairing with a pointed toe to add length to your legs -- especially if yours are on the shorter side like mine}

Add in some punches of color in your shoes / accessories {my Magenta Rayne seems to work with virtually any outfit these days!} . These studded flats are my new go-to shoes and are oh-so-comfy.
