Winter-Weight Plaid

Plaid shirts have always been a favorite of mine, but it can be hard to find ones that are heavy enough to keep you warm in these colder months that aren't bulky or masculine. So, I set out to find a feminine + flattering winter-weight flannel and found a few favorites at JCrew {like THIS one}.

cc-76.jpg

I love the colors in this shirt; blues, green & burnt orange brighten things up a bit rather than sticking with darker tones for winter.

To make flannel more feminine, add a statement necklace with crystals or another sort of 'blingy' gemstone or material. I love this Jcrew Factory Crystal Petal Clusters necklace because it's neutral but dressy {and it's on sale!}

Flannel is perfect with cords, a skirt or your favorite pair of jeans. Pair it with a scarf or poncho with it to keep you extra warm and stylish. It's a laid-back, classic look that's comfy + cozy!

versatile wardrobe must-haves

Today I'm bringing you some wardrobe must-haves that will carry you through {almost} all the seasons.

IMG_1406.jpg

1} THE PONCHO. I have always been a fan of the poncho look and this one from Loft just happened to fit the bill for me. It's not too heavy, which makes it easy to carry in your purse and throw on over anything from a sweater in winter, a tank in the spring or a lightweight blouse in the fall. The crochet makes it unique while also allowing you to see the coloring of whatever you have on underneath. Needless to say  it's been a recent favorite of mine, especially when I travel.

I love a classic all-black outfit but decided to add a heather gray tunic sweater underneath for a little contrast. Of course, my go-to pixie pants {another wardrobe MUST} were the choice for bottoms.

2} THE LEOPARD SHOE. Another wardrobe staple that every woman truly MUST HAVE? I've said it before and I'll say it again :: A leopard shoe. If you wear heels, then a leopard heel {like these super comfortable and affordable ones by BCBG Paris} is a necessity. If you can't do a  heel, try a wedge or a flat. No matter what form, a leopard shoe will be one of the most versatile pieces in your closet.

Pop one of your favorite statement necklaces {like this one -- currently on sale-- from JCrew} or a long pendant necklace ontop and you have an effortless outfit in minutes. Not to mention this Loft poncho has angles that are perfect for your arms to catch through for holding your purse, etc; No limitations that other ponchos can sometimes have.

work it out

WORK IT OUTTGIF! I'm here to beg for forgiveness re ::Β myΒ blogging hiatus... Things have been crazy busy for the Clymers because we just BOUGHT A HOUSE! {yay for no more renting, a house of our own and a fur baby (dog, of course) joining our family very soon!} I'll keep youΒ updated with photos and progress as weΒ go through the closing process, renovations and move-in, but now you know the reason behindΒ my lameness. It's a pretty good excuse, right?

Today we're talking workout wear. I don't know about you, but when I am exercising regularly I feel SO much better; more energy, sleep better, and an all-around better attitude. But the cherry ontop of staying in shape is looking stylish while doing it. Don't lie... you know that new pair of shoes or Lulu top is a major motivator to get your butt in the gym!

I'm sharing some of my favorite pieces to keep you stylishly in shape ::

New Balance Mesh 711 in Neon Yellow

I recently purchased these babies and LOVE the bright citron color.Β They are also super lightweight, comfortable and airy.

I absolutely love Nordstrom's Zella brand. Everything is comfortable and flattering,Β and it's a fraction of the price of Lulu Lemon. Not to mention the cute colors and patterns!

Zella Girl 'Freedom' Space Dye Leggings {on super sale now!}

The charcoal color of this leggings is perfect for those of you who want a swap from basic black. It is still dark enough that it hides imperfections {bulges, cellulite, dimples and all that other fun stuff that we women love to deal with}

Zella Girl 'Tumble' Tank

I love the built-in bra in this top because, let's be honest, who wants to worry about a separate sports bra? SO last year.

Zella 'Essential' Jacket

This is called the 'Essential' Jacket because that's exactly what it is. The ruching down the front provides the ultimate figure-flattery and it creates a perfect hourglass figure. This is especially essential as fall approaches!

ALO is another great workout brand with unique styles. I love anything with an open or drapey back and these fit the bill ::

ALO Cinder L/S Top

ALO Vapor Top

So work it out in style; you'll be more motivated and feeling refreshed in no time!

the shirtdress

Courtney summer-7-2Happy Wednesday! Today I'm bringing you a style staple that can go year-round :: the shirtdress. This casually chic and effortless look is perfect for throwing on in a jiffy while also looking polished put-together. I'm particularly loving this chambray stripe shirtdress from Loft right now. It's so Nantucket-esque, which just so happens to be my favorite place on Earth. So it's only fitting that I snatched it up!

Courtney summer-22-2The shirtdress is great by itself, but belt it around the small of your waist if you want to draw it in a bit; especially if your shirtdress is a bit more billowy.

LOFT Striped Chambray Shirtdress

Chambray is the perfect neutral color, especially for the summer and fall. The nautical stripe adds that little extra something.

how to :: make your casual summer look chic

Happy Monday and a happy short work week to those of you who have Friday off! Today we're going back to the basics and talking about your casual summer wardrobe. For many of you, comfort is key; whether you are a mom running and playing with your kids, or are in a professional setting and can't wait to throw on those comfy clothes at the end of your work week! How do you make a plain ole' t-shirt and shorts look chic + put together? Today we're talking how to make your casual look chic ::

  • The half-tuck :: Rather than leaving your tee shirt hanging over your shorts, accentuate your waist-line and polish up your look. Tuck the front half of your tee into your shorts, and then pull down around the sides and back. This gives a more put-together look, without the constant adjustment and sometimes discomfort of a full tuck all the way around. Pick a short that's breathable and fun, like these navy crochet trim linen shortsΒ from LOFT.

Courtney summer-32-2

  • Patterns + sleeves :: Try a fun patterned tee that is still comfortable and breathable. Β Experiment with a cap sleeve or a tank, Β rather than your basic sleeve. You can do the same with necklines. How about this LOFT floral tee?

Courtney summer-36-2

  • Accessorize! :: Accessories are the finishing touch. NO outfit is complete without at least some minimal accessorizing. And since it's summer, try something fun! Add a bright warm color to a cool-toned outfit, or vice versa. My summer go-to accessory? These neon pink Kendra Scott 'Danielle' earrings. They are bright, bold and FABULOUS.

Courtney summer-39-2

  • Dress it up from day to night :: I'm all about an outfit being versatile enough to go from day into night. During the day, pair with a flat sandal or a flip flop. Then take your look into nighttime by switching to a wedge and amping up your accessories. Add a white jean jacket for those cool nights, like this one from GAP.

So amp up your casual tee + shorts look this summer. It doesn't have to look thrown on and tired. Use these tips to keep your casual comfort while looking chic and put-together!

the jumpsuit

It's warm and sunny! We've been showered out, and the sun is shining. The best thing about warm weather is how you can dress for it! Today I'm talking about a major spring trend that has made its way into the fashion world :: The Jumpsuit/Jumper; an easy & effortless yet chic look that can be transitioned from day into night, dressed up andΒ dressed down.

Here are a couple tips to go buy when looking for a jumper ::

1) If you have a curvier figure, you may want to try a wider leg. A tapered or tracksuit type leg will typically accentuate your hip and thigh area. This is not a rule, just a suggestion!

2) If you are tall and skinny, not only do I hate you {just kidding!...kind of} but you can wear virtually any jumper style. Try a tapered, skinny leg or wide-leg.

3) You can never go wrong with black. It's slimming, classic and timeless.

4) A sweetheart top / halter top is universally-flattering. If you are having trouble finding a top style that works on you, try one of these.

5) Look for a jumpsuit that accentuates your waist; whether it ties, belts, or has an elastic waist-band. This is the most flattering cut on any figure.

A few of my favorites ::

classic black, tapered leg.

casual beach chic from Loft

I love throwing on a jumpsuit or romper when I'm not in the mood to overthink my outfit choice. It allows you to look polished, stylish and chic without having to think about both a top AND bottom. So try one this summer; I promise that if you find the right one, you'll be hooked!

These are a few of our favorite spring things...

SPRING WISH LIST

Happy Hump Day, y'all! Today I'm sharing my Spring Wish List. From bags, to clothing, to beauty buys and more, these items are sure to make their way into my hands before spring is through...

First up, this to-die-for foldover leather clutch from K.slademade. I love the soft leather, the size, the color options and the fact that you can add a simple gold monogram to any bag!

Second, the Stella & Dot Norah Pendant. Citrine is a must-have in your closet for spring, and trust me when I say that you can wear this beauty with EVERYTHING! From navy, to coral, toΒ neutrals and patterns, the Norah is the perfect necklace to take you into spring & summer.

Next on the list is one of my splurges :: Anyone who knows me knows that I am a sucker for Tory Burch! TheΒ heel height of the Savannah Wedge is perfect for a sweet daytime dress, andtaking it into the night with a white skinny jean or fun skirt.

SPLURGE :: Tory Burch Savannah Wedge

The fourth thing on my wish list is a beauty buy. Too Faced "Return of Sexy" eye palette is full of bright colors that I'm dying to experiment with this spring. I love a pop of bright eye color blended in with other neutrals; especially those fuchsia tones. Radiant Orchid, anyone?

Too Faced "Return of Sexy" Eye Palette

I always say that if I were forced to only shop at one store for the rest of my life, it would be Anthropologie. {I could go into the reasoning behind this, but I will keep it short and sweet by saying that they carry all of the basic necessities, plus the prettiest patterns and the most unique, compliment-receiving pieces} So naturally, there are a few {okay, twenty} things on my spring wish list from Anthro.

Everyone needs florals in their closet this spring. This skirt will help do that. It's girly, pretty and flattering. I would pair it with a navy and white striped tee, or a silky white blouse for a simple, put-together chic look.

Anthropologie Pomme Blossom Skirt

Last, but certainly not least on my Wish List is some pretty gear to {hopefully} inspire me to work out! Great justification, right? And let's be honest - I will be hanging around my house in this even if I don't make it to the gym! The color is perfect for spring and I love the built-in bra. Lulu Lemon works her magic once again!
